| Spring is a time for renewal and Avalon is certainly in
its Spring Season! We're embracing a team approach to our
services and community
events. | |
The Empowerment
Walk
The
Empowerment Walk is the very core of what we do here at Avalon
and conceptualizes the journey that Avalon residents and staff
travel together. Residents are reassured
that they will no longer travel the journey to safety
and self-sufficiency alone. Are you in an abusive
relationship? Do you need safety and
empowerment for yourself? There is
help. Contact Avalon's 24-hour Helpline at
258-5051. Download a safety plan at http://www.avaloncenter.org/helpline/safety_plan.html Do you want to learn how
your church, civic group or place of business can help
foster empowerment? Schedule an educational
presentation or meeting by contacting Erin at 258-5022 or
sending an email to erin@avaloncenter.org.
Do you want to join the journey? Volunteer
opportunities are available by contacting Carmen at 258-5022
or carmen@avaloncenter.org. |
March 1st was the official
launch date of classes at Avalon's new Life Skills
Center. A recent Tuesday evening paints a picture
of what had been in the making for months:
- Trainers worked 2 on 1 with one resident, offering
interview tips, techniques, and best practices.
- Another team of trainers coached a resident on how to
plan for and launch a home business.
- A William & Mary intern led an art-therapy group for
Avalon's children.
The unique aspect of the classes now being offered is
that they are specifically tailored to meet each
individual clients' needs, making material more
meaningful for students and increasing the probability of
success.
Members from the Williamsburg Chapter of Soroptimist International are currently
volunteering their time to serve as trainers. If you
have a skill or professional area of expertise that you would
like to share, contact Life Skills Coordinator Sue McGee at sue@avaloncenter.org | |
