Preventing Child Abuse &
Neglect
The Child Abuse Awareness Month designation
began in 1983. Child welfare
advocates dedicated the month of April to
increasing public awareness about the need to keep
kids safe. Today, though,
the prevention initiative has expanded.
April is an opportunity for communities across the
country to come together to keep children safe
by providing the support families need to
stay together so that they can raise children and
youth to be happy, secure, and stable
adults.

Raising Awareness in
Virginia
Why celebrate women's health? Taking care of
one self is important in order to live a
longer, healthier, and happier life. Many
women are the primary caregivers in their
families. It is important to educate our wives,
mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts
and girlfriends about the steps they can take to
improve their health and prevent
disease. When even the simplest
steps are taken to improve health, the results can
be significant and everyone will benefit.

Working Towards Justice for All
Victims
April 13-19 is Crime Victims' Rights
Week. Statistics show that 8 out 12
Americans will be victimized by crime at least
once in their lifetime. Victimization of any
kind--family violence, sexual assault, identity
theft, burglary--is painful. Victims frequently
feel helpless, violated, and alone. During this
week, reach out to someone you know who
may be a victim. Let them know
their rights.
Keeping up-to-date on crime statistics
makes you can advocate and catalyst for
change.
